Not in death
So today I am alive
And this is the time to sing my praise
The right time to appreciate me
Call me not because you need a favour
But just to say hello
Visit me not only when I am unwell
But just because you care
Don’t wait till after I am gone
Only to surprise me with your beautiful eulogy
Well elaborate and embellished
To then say to the whole world
What a wonderful soul it has lost
Do me a favour, friends
Celebrate me while I am alive
For your tributes and flowers
They will mean nothing to me in my grave.
Straight to the point my sister. I also have a poem on the same theme from last year. I wrote it after I attended a funeral and saw all the vainglory and heard all the tributes. I had forgotten to publish it but this poem has reminded me. I think we should all speak out about this social practice of cherishing the dead over the living. For me, I want to be celebrated alive! Good job!
ReplyDeleteThank you John. I am glad that you also feel the same. Alert me when you publish yours.
